Next month NHS leaders are expected to submit their Sustainability and Transformation Plans (STPs), demonstrating how local services will evolve and become more sustainable over the next five years.
To support local systems with planning, NHS England has produced a document of guidance, setting out a list of national challenges for STPs. The document states that ‘STPs are about the holistic pursuit of the triple aim – better health, transformed quality of care delivery, and sustainable finances’.
In order to gain sign-off and attract additional national investment, local systems will need to tackle three overarching questions:
- How will you close the health and wellbeing gap?
- How will you drive transformation to close the care and quality gap?
- How will you close the finance and efficiency gap?
